No but there is a very similar quote in the Bible where the author could've gotten the one you mentioned from. In Luke 10:18, it says " I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven" which could be referring to the quote you mentioned as it says very similar statements from seeing Satan (devil) fall from heaven. I think it means people might change from really a really good person into a really bad person just in a short time. in the play, Hale said that because Proctor said that Rebecca was a respected people who would not do witchcraft. He meant to tell Proctor that she might have changed. -Mila-
They charged her with witchcraft because when Ann's babies died the person who delivered them was Nurse. The Putnam's thought that because majority of their babies died it must be Nurse who's cursing them.
I think it's because she's so innocent and such a firm believer and follower of God that she is the last person that anyone would think of for actually doing witchcraft...I hope that makes sense..

I agree with you guys! It's obvious that she really does care about John, especially how she's soooo insecure about him. Even with everything they have gone through, I don't think Elizabeth would just give up like that. All the things they have gone through would have just been a waste.
Why do you think Mary Warren is hesitant on testifying in court? What is preventing her from telling what she knows to the court? Could it be a possible punishment or repercussion to bribe her?

The only reason why Mary is obeying Abigail is because she's mostly scared of what Abby is capable of doing. I think that she's really on Elizabeth's side. Afterall, she has nothing against the Proctors. She was John and Elizabeth's servant, but they never mentioned anything about them treating Mary badly. #teamElizabeth >:)
I think that Mary Warren is scared to tell the truth because Abigail threatens her but at the same time she is stuck in the middle because she is a servant of the Proctors. She is stuck in the middle of a lie and what is right and is indecisive. She's scared so when she's put on the spot she can't decide so she goes both ways. Good question Justine!

In the beginning of Act II, Sarah Good was accused of witchcraft because she could not say any the Ten Commandments. Do you guys think this is enough proof to accuse someone of witchcraft? Why or why not.
i don't belive thats a good enough reason to accuse someone of witchcraft. maybe he just for got them because he wasnt expecting it. plus it's not like her forgot all of them, it was just one .

I think Proctor and Hale have different mindsets than most people in Salem. I also think Abigail is pretty smart in a weird way. I feel like she does not even believe in god, she is just using their religion and her power to manipulate and scare people with out feeling any guilt. -Justine
I think that Proctor is smart because he knows what's true and what's not true. Even though he's a religious person, his beliefs seem more based around common sense. Hale, on the other hand, seems "too educated". It seems like he feels that he knows everything about witchcraft; but he has more religiously based beliefs.

When John Proctor said that, "My wife will never die for me"(Miller 80) did he know that his wife, Elizabeth, is in love with him so much that she is willing to die for him even though he had an affair with Abigail or did he say that in order to look admirable in front of Mary Warren?

What does Proctor and Hail have a discussion on the bottom of page 68 and top of 69, Proctor says,"And why not, of they must hang for denyin' it? There are then that will swear to anything before they'll hang; have you never thought of that? He basically gives Hale a reality check that this is non sense. Why is Proctor looking at the other end of this, and everyone is taking it seriously? Does it have to do with his moral character?
do you think that it's fair that they questioned Proctors beliefs by asking him to recite the commandments? would you be able to remember them by heart if you were put on the spot ?
