By Friday, November 2nd write one thoughtful discussion question and respond to one question about the end of the play (Act IV). 20 points - 10 points for the question and 10 points for a response.
I think they were more surprised than stupid that she actually did it when they found out because i dont think they were really expecting that to happen
I think for a moment he felt that he won. But when he figured out that his name had to do with his "confession", then I guess his mind changed. To John, he might have thought that confessing would have just set him free. Well, not really.
Most likely it felt like it was victory seeing as he wants to prove his point. He died for what he believed in and is likely felt triumphant as he put a lot of courage to die instead of saying a lie.
Even though Proctor's kids weren't really part of the book, what do you think was going through their minds when their parents were sent to jail? What about when John was hanged?
like all other families, it's very depressing. it's terrible to know that your dad just got hanged. even going to jail is not as bad, it's still pretty depressing - Andrew
In MY opinion, Proctor made the wrong decision because instead of having so much pride in himself, he should have been more thoughtful about the lifelong effect(s) of his sons growing up without a father and Elizabeth raising all their children without him.
because he does not want to put doubt on the justification of the hangings of the twelve previously condemned and on the sentence of hanging for the seven remaining prisoners. -tk
Well actually Reverend Hale thought he could change the people minds who are accused , but it didn't work out. That is why he call Elizabeth for help so she can make John to change his mind, which it didn't work out as well.
He didn't loose all hope exactly like what Kevin said. The least thing he could do was try to convince the people in jail to confess because he has done enough in the witch trials and that would put at least less guilt on him Marilyn
It was morally/ethically right, because she didnt want to try to take away his pride. But it was empathetically wrong b/c she let him choose to die, personally i would never let a loved one die, unless they were physically suffering and naturally at the brink of death, b/c its just too hard to loose someone.
She probably went to go try and "live a better life", BUT I don't think that worked out, because well.. you know.. she turned out to be a prostitute.. haha sorry ms. mcenany is that was kinda inappropriate, but that's what the book said!
why didnt they put out a warrant for Abi after she ran away and stole the money? According to rumors she went to Boston, which isnt very far from Salem, they could have caught her and taken her to court to face her felonies and sins.
When Abigail took the money and left why didn't the girls end up confessing if the only reason they weren't allowed to say anything was because of her? And why didn't the court acknowledge that Abigail fled the court can't she be consequenced and questioned for that, why wasn't she questioned about it when she came back?

After everything that happened, do you think that Abigail thinks that all of the things she did was worth it? Do you think that having her "love" been hanged for something he didn't do and having his kids grow up without a dad is worth all of the lying and manipulation that she did?
John realizes that signing the confession would ruin his "good name" (especially for his sons). Why do you think reputation is so important to him -- why couldn't he and his family just move to another place/city/state if he was so concern about his family living in shame in their community?
I think it's not that easy for them to move, he already had a lot of land and a comfy house to stay,he also has a good reputation in Salem, it will be hard for them to move and start all over again.
i think that it would be hard for them to just pack up and leave because there's barely any transportation. also they're like in the middle of no where.i think his name is so important to him because thats how her gets respect in society.
