ReplyDeleteWhy does Ms. Caroline want Atticus to stop teaching Scout how to read? Isn't it good that she can read and write at her age?
ReplyDeleteMs. Caroline disliked the fact that she has one student who is above the rest of the class. It makes it harder to teach Scout and most likely complicated any plans she might have had.
Delete-Jonathan
i think it also dealt with the fact that she was a brand new teacher, and she probably didn't know how to handle the fact that one of her students already knew stuff that she was suppose to teach them, and she was probably just lost and she wanted to be in full control.
Delete-Katie
I agree with Paula because Ms.Caroline doesn't want student that knows how to read in her class.

Out of curiosity, why do you think Scout always addresses her father by his first name? I understand that there's southern hospitality and certain ways of addressing people, but I would think that she would at least call him "father" instead consistently calling him Atticus. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteI believe it is due to the sort of distancing Atticus and his children had because of him being a lawyer. Atticus never or maybe rarely played with his children. He kept a serious personality and thus might have affected how Scout would refer to her own father.
Delete-Jonathan
It could also be just how she grew up like that. Once you start calling your parent by their first name, then it kind of "sticks" to the fact that you will continue that for the rest of your life, in my opinion.
DeleteI agree with Jonathan. Because Atticus was a lawyer, he treats everyone fair and equal. So i guessed that he wanted Scout to be just as equal as he is. Which is why he didn't care rather or not Scout called him father.
DeleteExample would be how Ryan Reidy lets us call him Ryan instead of Mr. Reidy.

DeleteMaybe because they weren't taught to respect their father growing up, Atticus seems like a very serious educated man who is wise but at the same time kind of minds himself in a way And it's not really like a normal father to child relationship maybe he brought his kids up that way.
DeleteMarilyn
I agree with Johnny~ Despite his distant relationship with his children, i would still consider Atticus as a good parent. The fact that he's a busy, respected lawyer in their town shows that his children probably feel obliged to call him by his first name to show respect since everyone else refers to him as Atticus.

ReplyDeleteDo you think Boo Riley really hurt his father? Why or why not? -Mila-

DeleteI believe that Miss Stephanie Crawford may have been starting rumors for attention. Or she misunderstood the situation.
DeleteJell-o Packet is Josh
DeleteI agree with Paula. I think that a lot of the stories about him are over exaggerated. he might have some problems, but I don't think they are as bad as everyone makes them out to be.
DeleteI agree with Graham and Paula because probably it was an accident.

Why did Mr. Radley fill the tree hole with cement besides the fact that it was dying?
ReplyDeletehe wanted to stop Boo from giving the kids trickets.
Delete*trinkets
DeleteI think it was to prevent that person from getting in contact with others. Or Mr. Radley wanted to keep a secret from unfolding.
DeleteI think some precious things that Jem and Scout found in there might belong to Mr. Radley. As there's more and more things they found, Mr.Radley starts to realize that his things has gone and finds out about the hole, so he closes it to stop it.
Deletei think he filled the tree because he had screts in there and Jem and Scout was finding them but they found new things everytime they went there. -mickey
DeleteMr. Radley filled the tree hole with cement maybe because he found out who was taking them. Jem and Scout did sign their name on the letter they left in the hole.
Delete
ReplyDeleteNathan Radley's motive was to stop the communication between Boo and the children. Wether this was an act of cruelty or a way of protecting his younger brother from thoughtless children is uncertain. - Josh

ReplyDeleteWhen the children plan to send a letter to the person who leaves the gifts, they are prevented. How does this happen? Who does it, and why? - Josh
ReplyDeleteAtticus stops them from sending the letter because Attitcus knows who the gifts are coming from
Delete- Sarah M.
why do you think the children are so scared of boo radley?
ReplyDelete- Sarah M.
i think the children think that he is like an older guy so that is intimitating and he is known as a freak to everyone because he is really weird
Delete-katie
Well he has been in his house for 15 years and also physically assaulted his father violently that could be one reason.
Deletei agree with them because he has some terrible rumors going on and the children believed it
Deletei think boo radley was most likely the one who fixed his pants
ReplyDelete- sarah
why is it that everytime dill and jem want to insult Scout, they say shes acting like a girl? why does she get so mad?
ReplyDelete- Sarah M.
cuz shes a tomboy and doesnt want to be associated with girls
DeleteScout gets mad when they say she's acting like a girl because she really enjoys hanging out with jem and dill, but she's afraid that they would leave her out or would grow tired of her because she's a girl. She's insulted because she probably feels pressured being a tomboy living in a society where girls are expected to act and look a certain way.
DeleteWhy do you think the children have a lot of faith and trust in Ms. Maudie?
ReplyDelete-Katie
because theyre comfortable with her and they think shes wise
DeleteThey really respect ms Maudie because she gives them things and they see her as a wise woman. She gets along with them and treats them fairly
DeleteMarilyn

ReplyDeletei agree with sarah, Radley is the person who lives there and might be the one who patched Jem's pants
ReplyDeleteDo you think there are other sympathetic characters other than Ms. Maudie and Atticus?
ReplyDeleteyes i think that the house maid Calpurnia is always looking after the kinds and making sure they behave well and are fed
DeleteDo you guys think Boo Radley is really a wicked man?
ReplyDeleteno i think he is either shy of the world or he doesnt know how to act around other people since he has been in the dark for so long.
Deleteno i hust think hes really timid. I find him very misunderstood within his community.
Deletewhy does Scout get more protective towards Dill and Jem over time ?
ReplyDeleteI think as she grows older she realizes that what Dill and Jem do might cause serious rection. she's afraid of Boo Radley and from what she heard, he could be really violent, she doesn't want the boys to get into trouble
DeleteI think because she doesn't want anything bad to happen to them since they are her main friends that she enjoys.
DeleteDo you think Boo is a good man? And people just think he's a bad man because of what people say. What're your predictions about this character
ReplyDeleteMarilyn Oliva
Hey girl.. It's too soon to tell if Boo is a good man or not, but I predict that he is a good man, just lost and troubled. I think that Boo actually been through a lot, and he's just an eccentric person in general. I hope later in the story we get to see his true colors.
DeleteJustine
When Scout saw the knot-hole was filled with cement, why was is so important that it made her cry?
ReplyDeleteWhy does Scout throw the soap figurines on the ground?
ReplyDeleteAnd if Boo is so good at carving soap why is he so bad at patching up pants
the last question is rhetorical
DeleteWhat do you think would happen if Jem and Scout tell Atticus about where they found the antique things?
ReplyDeletehe might think that it would be stealing, since its in the Radly's yard. but none the less he would not like it.
Deletei think Atticus would have been mad because he told them to leave the radleys alone and he doesmt wamt the kids involved wit them -mickey
Delete(Jem and Scout's mom is barely mentioned in the book) Do you think her death was the main cause of Atticus' distant relationship with Jim and Scout? Why or why not.
ReplyDelete****JEM -.-
DeleteI don't think so, I think that Atticus is just that type of person. Serious and just kept to himself. It does say that their mother was way younger than Atticus, but yeah I don't think the loss of their mother has anything to do with Atticus' relationship with his kids.
Delete^^^ Justine :-)
Deletei dont think the death of the mom has a big impact on the relationship between atticus and the kids, i just think thats the way atticuses personality is.
Delete^^^^^^ hayden
Deletei think it has something to do with the distance but it's not all her the reason why ! . her father is often working and doesnt pay them much attention . this can cause scout to be resentful towards her father .
DeleteI think it's possible for Atticus to have a distance from his kids because of their mom's passing ; but with him being a lawyer and probably having to work a lot, I don't think the passing of their mom would be the cause of their distance.
DeleteDo y'all think Boo is trying to make the kids go back to his place? By sewing Jems pants? Do you think he's targeting the kids? -Justine
ReplyDeleteIt had to be Boo Radley because wasn't Scout, Dill, and Scout trying to see who lived in the house. And when they did, they ran for their lives trying to leave the house as soon as possible. When Jem got his pants caught, and returned for it, the person who could have fixed it would be Boo Radley. I don't know why he fixed it for him.
ReplyDeleteScout seems very smart and witty, but why is she so impulsive and does not think things through?
ReplyDeleteshes still really young and has immature characteristics although she is very smart and talks like an adult. Shes still a little girl and most of the time the majority of children act out of impulse.
Deletemaybe because shes not scared of the concequences. i think she old enough to understand the wrong and right things to say, but she's very opinionated and likes her thoughts to be heard, reguardless of thier consequences.
Deletedo you think if mr. radley didnt fill the tree with cement and the kids left the letter. do you think he would have replied back and kept leaven things for them? and why do you think he was giving them things?
ReplyDelete-mickey
DeleteBoo perhaps really cares about the kids, and maybe he is not really a monster at all, and hes cool.
DeleteMaybe Boo is lonely and is seeking new friends.
DeleteWhy do you think Atticus allows Calpurnia to help punish the kids if she is just the cook and not a parent?
ReplyDeletebecause the kids maybe need a mother figure in their life and atticus sees that. hayden
Deletebecause atticus wants both of his children to be educated and since they have no mother, he wants capurnia to take that role.
DeleteWhy did the kids decide to spy on Boo? Why would they take that risk?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeletewhy is scout so afraid to be a girl? hayden
ReplyDeleteWhy is everyone so obsessed with Boo? do you think they should leave him alone and give him his privacy and space ?
ReplyDeleteI think its cause hes such a mysterioous figure around teh town and how the rumors of him being a crazy kid,yet noone has really seen him come out.
DeleteI think the whole curiosity factor of him is what draws ppl into thinking and talking about him and sense he doesnt come outside and testify again the statement anything can and will be said about him it would be good if they keep buggin him to come out so ppl can see him and know hes not a dam monster so the rumors will die
DeleteWho Could have been leaving all those items in jems and scout tree?
ReplyDeleteI think its boo aka Arthur cuz he just chills in his house all day he could look out and see when they leave and he knows the best times to snoop around without being seen
DeletePlus i think that would be a good twist in the story
DeleteWhy Jem doesn't show that he cares about Scout?
ReplyDelete-Manuela
DeleteDo you think jem feel bad for beatin up whats his name because it was wrong or because it led to her being mildly segregated ?-darrien
ReplyDeleteWait...jem was the one that beat him up right?...
DeleteHow will the out come of the trial shadow the fench name? Will it be a possitive or negative
